Portrait provenance
Illustration is context, not evidence.
Eight original ImageGen illustrations were created specifically for Epochade. Prompts required fresh museum-editorial interpretations, historically grounded clothing and work context, no copied or closely mimicked single artwork or photograph, no logos, and no legible text.
Every portrait is labelled “interpretive” in its dossier. For Benjamin Banneker and Ibn al-Haytham, the app explicitly notes that no secure contemporary portrait establishes an exact face. No museum scan, search-result image, film still, publicity photo, studio logo, or third-party artwork is shipped.
Generated illustrations are not documentary evidence. Historical claims are supported separately by the institutions on the sources page.
Commercial-release gate: Katherine Johnson and Hedy Lamarr have comparatively recent deaths, and an active Hedy Lamarr estate site exists. Their portraits must not be placed behind a paid entitlement, used in advertising, or presented as endorsed until qualified counsel reviews the intended sales territories. This caution is not a conclusion that educational use is unlawful.
